A Path to Sustainability

According to many environmental activists, as long as we have a meat industry, not having a leather industry would be uneconomical. It should be noted that leather made as a byproduct of the meat industry and tanned with vegetables is a relatively eco-friendly option, especially if it is reused.

Sustainable leather results from the byproducts of local farming and agriculture industries. It is considered to be a sustainable alternative as animals are not raised for the sole purpose of attaining their leather for goods, rather they are essentially farm animals. Aside from using harmful chemicals in the production of real leather, the environment is further damaged through deforestation. Besides, ensuring a brand has a clear supply chain (if buying real leather) opting for a brand that uses vegetable tanning as opposed to chemicals is considered less detrimental for the planet.

We at Archers Leather do not condone the use of real animal fur for fashion purposes. As it is our brand’s core philosophy and ethos, we only utilize faux fur, if any at all. In addition to this, another interesting attribute of Archers Leather is that 1% of our generated profit goes to the well-being of the environment and in achieving the sustainability that our planet requires. Our brand’s sustainability strategy aims to bring about positive change in order to secure a brighter future. However, the mass production of garments across the world is one of the biggest factors contributing to the increase of the world's carbon footprint, producing one-tenth of the world’s carbon emissions. Subsequently, leading to both Archers Leather, and the luxury fashion industry as a whole, to make major changes in the way production works.

Therefore, creating a durable garment from the byproducts of the meat industry is environmentally sustainable throughout the fashion sector. Nowadays, the leftovers from the meat production process are the ways things operate, which by all means, ensures to fit comfortably into our ethos of “buys less, buy better”. The fast fashion industry, as opposed to the slow fashion industry, produces over 92 million tonnes of waste, along with 79 trillion litres of water per year, this makes the mass production of fast fashion goods unsustainable. To conclude, instead of creating cheap, fast fashion plastic goods, we at Archers Leather present timeless designs and jackets that promise to last a lifetime. We are here to successfully reduce the carbon footprint and waste through responsible leather sourcing practices and improved manufacturing production processes. Therefore, focusing on quality over quantity for a greater tomorrow.
